Of all the major Dragon Quest footage from the big presentation, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 for the Nintendo 3DS was the one we saw the least of. However, Square Enix was gracious enough to bring along a single screenshot and the artwork of our main protagonist.

As expected, it’s a much more sci-fi fare than the general fantasy feeling of the main series, and our hero has been confirmed to be able to ride any monster he catches. Talk about innovation!

Now we get a chance to see how Dragon Quest’s brand of monster catching measures up against Pokemon and the modern day favorite, Yokai Watch. A three-way battle between three powerhouse franchises. Who will win this rumble?

Square Enix slapped it with a release window of this coming Winter in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS. No word on an English localization just yet.
