Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is taking fans and players alike to places in the Dragon Ball canon they’ve never been before. This latest batch of high-res screenshots shows off two obscure characters from the show, one of whom isn’t even in the canon!

One character who I’ve always been fascinated with is Cooler, the brother of Frieza. He’s never mentioned anywhere in the show or in the manga, and yet, he shows up in the fifth movie and kicks Goku around with a lot more brutality than his all-powerful brother does. And then, after he dies in the fifth film, he comes back as a meta-robot in the sixth film on a far more powerful scale than Frieza, once again surpassing his all-powerful brother.

The family ties! They hurt so bad! Cooler’s meta-robot form from the sixth film is playable in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, and while he’s not canon, he’s about as amazingly one-dimensional as an anime villain can get.

And then there is Nail, who is basically Piccolo if Piccolo were a nicer guy, raised on his own planet with a more honorable background. They look exactly the same, talk exactly the same, and when Nail is on the verge of death in the anime, he’s even absorbed into Piccolo to give him an all important power-boost in the fight against Frieza. He’s a fan-favorite character as the “nice-guy Namek,” but he’s also about as obscure as the canonical characters get.

In addition to the screenshots, Bandai Namco also subtitled the Tokyo Game Show 2016 trailer, giving English speaking fans a better idea of what is going on with this new story. Check that out below, and be sure to pick up Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 on Oct. 25 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
