EA and BioWare announced at Gamescom that its massive open-world RPG, Dragon Age: Inquisition, finally has an official launch window of Fall 2014.
So far, the game’s time frame has been kept a secret given the controversial history of releases this series has had. Be it either taking too long at the expense of blowing us away or not given enough time to cook and being totally underwhelming, Dragon Age has never quite hit the happy spot to please both sides of the equation.
I, like most people should, fall into the category believing that every game needs to be given the proper time needed, but if delays and long waits are a must, then they are a must. I am glad to see BioWare is taking its time with Dragon Age: Inquisition, because I want it to be the best game it can possibly be.
In the meantime, I have The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Elder Scrolls Online, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and a handful of other open-world next-gen RPGs to keep me busy until this one finally sees an official release. I still haven’t even beaten Skyrim yet, so why the rush for so many new games anyway?
A new dev diary video also unveiled the fantasy world of Thedas, the place all of this action will be happening. Given the size BioWare is aiming for with this game, it has to be something downright amazing since you and your fully customized protagonist are going to be spending a lot of time there. From the looks of things so far, BioWare’s knack for creating worlds and universes is just as strong as it was when they made Baldur’s Gate. Thedas is gorgeous, and I can’t wait to dive in.
Check out more on Dragon Age: Inquisiton here as it becomes available. BioWare’s first jump into the new generation is nothing to scoff at, especially since the company sold me on both the Xbox and Xbox 360 with Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect respectively. Could this be the game I need that’s going to make me want a next gen console? We’ll see in the fall of 2014 when it is released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
