GoPro has long been the king of the action camera market, but its crown is being challenged. DJI on Wednesday introduced the Osmo Action, a small action camera that has one killer feature GoPro doesn't: a front-facing display, making it much easier to capture selfie videos.
Otherwise, DJI's tiny new action cam looks a lot like the GoPro Hero7 Black, and it offers many of the same features, including image stabilization, 4K video at 60fps, and 8x slow motion. Both cameras are also waterproof, with the Osmo Action protected down to a depth of 11 meters.
The DJI Osmo Action stands out for a few reasons: it's $349, whereas the Hero7 Black is $400. The Osmo Action also offers a front-facing full-color display, so you can easily frame selfie shots, making the camera great for vlogging. DJI's action cam also shoots 4K HDR video, while the Hero7 Black does not, and it supports a variety of filters that can be screwed onto the camera body.

There's a lot to like about the Osmo Action, particularly the front-facing display. If you don't currently own an action camera, there's really no reason to pick up the Hero7 Black over the Osmo Action, unless you really want to pay more money.
DJI has been in the action sports game with drones and gimbals, but never has the company so blatantly gone after GoPro. The Osmo Action is a big step toward further establishing DJI has a premiere player in the action sports market.
The DJI Osmo Action is available now from DJI for $350.
DJI Osmo Action
An action camera with a front-facing display
DJI's new Osmo Action is basically a better GoPro Hero7 Black, thanks to its full-color front-facing display. It can shoot 4K video at 60fps and supports different shooting modes, including time-lapse and slow motion. If you're looking to get into the action cam market, the Osmo Action is a great option.
