DirecTV Now

DirecTV now has very quietly launched two new packages, in addition to the five it's had for some time now. The two new plans are called "Plus" and "Max."

The new plans aren't actually available yet — as in you can't add them to your account. But DirecTV Now already has them listed on their channel breakdowns. Here's what you need to know:

Plus has the fewest channels of any of the options and comes in at $50 a month (which is $10 more than the "Live a Little" plan." Max is the next biggest and runs $70 a month.

Why the higher prices, given that the two plans have fewer channels than any of DirecTV Now's other offerings? Mostly because Plus includes HBO, and Max includes HBO and Cinemax.

There are other differences in channels, though. Here's what you'll be looking at:

DirecTV Now plans and channels

Channel Plus ($50) Max ($70) Live a Little ($40) Just Right ($55) Go Big ($65) Gotta Have It ($75) Todo y Más ($45)

These more diverse options aren't a huge surprise — DirecTV Now's parent company AT&T has said it's going to to something to help stem the tide of customer abandonment it's seen the past few months. Whether including HBO along with fewer overall channels will do that remains to be seen. We're also still waiting on DirecTV Now's new set-top streaming box, but nothing official on that as of it. (Though plenty of folks are currently beta testing it.)

We'll update when these plans are actually available for purchase.
