Long gone are the days of Devil May Cry taking itself too seriously. The series, which has always been over-the-top and campy, is getting back to its bad boy roots with Devil May Cry 5, now set to be released on March 9, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

In a trailer accompanying the release date announcement, veteran protagonist Dante makes his long-awaited appearance in the series' latest entry, and while the demon hunter might have aged quite a few years, as hinted by his five o'clock shadow, he hasn't lost a step in his fighting abilities. He roars into action on the back of a motorcycle… which proceeds to split itself in half, becoming a dual handed melee weapon for our hero to tear into the undead with.

It's awesome.

Oh yeah, and a majority of the trailer also stars some other nerd fighting alongside him. Nero from Devil May Cry 4 is back, and at least Capcom gave the underling a style and haircut of his own this time around to aid in distinguishing the two protagonists from one another.

Well… almost. Instead of mirroring his badass superior in Devil May Cry 5, Nero now takes after the alternate universe Dante from DmC, short haircut and jerk-wad attitude in all.

Capcom just couldn't leave him in the dust, could it?

Either way, it's great to see Devil Mary Cry get another shot and stick to its guns, not succumbing to and falling in line with the Dark Souls clones of the world. Do your own thing, Capcom, and the rest of you, be sure to play Devil May Cry 5 on March 9 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC.
