Capcom has dug even further back into its Devil May Cry library to find the next target for an HD remaster. Devil May Cry 4 is the last of the games that purists might call home, and they’ll be getting a chance to play it all over again when the Devil May 4 Cry: Special Edition launches this summer for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Similarly to the recent DmC Devil May Cry Definitive Edition, Capcom has slapped this upcoming game with a handful of improvements, gaming modes, and content that extend far beyond a simple 60fps and 1080p overhaul. The most telling of the bunch is the addition of three new playable characters to help shake up the formula.

  • Vergil – Based on his rendition in Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, combined with elements of his playstyle from DmC Devil May Cry, this is the definitive version of the character. New combat mechanics are also introduced that complement his icy attitude and flawless style. Vergil is playable on any mission.
  • Lady – Playable for the first time in the series, Lady specializes in long-range, firearm-based combat. Her signature weapon, the Kalina Ann, features a grappling hook which allows her to easily traverse environments. Lady is playable on Nero’s missions.
  • Trish – Trish does away with the need for weapon switching, making skillful use of the versatile Sparda sword, her pistols, and her bare hands in a variety of inventive ways. Trish is playable on Dante’s missions.

Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition will introduce a Legendary Dark Knight Mode, which sadly does not allow fans to control Batman. Instead, it changes up the campaign’s difficulty with increased enemy spawns, and each enemy comes packing’ more vitality and strength to knock Dante and Vergil onto their butts.

Unfortunately, the Special Edition can’t find a way to remove Nero from the game, so you’ll have to tolerate him knowing that Dante is just around the corner. At least it’s better than knowing that Snake is never coming in Metal Gear Solid 2.

Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition will be released on June 24 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
