Joseph Staten is leaving Bungie after 15 years to "tackle new creative challenges," he announced this week via a post to the Bungie website.

During his tenure at Bungie, Staten was involved with, of course, Halo as the Director of Cinematics in the first three games in the series. After writing mission scripts for the games, he even wrote a full-length Halo novel, Halo: Contact Harvest. Most recently, though, Staten served as the Writer and Design Director behind Bungie's upcoming title, Destiny.

In his post, Staten said that it has been his pleasure "building Destiny these past four years, and after the big reveal this Summer, our hugely talented team is on track for greatness." This is presumably to assuage any fears fans and investors might have of a high-profile game losing high-profile staff partway through development.

Staten hasn't elaborated on what he'll be doing next, but with some of the most popular Xbox games under his belt along with a novel that hit #3 on the New York Times bestseller list, he has plenty of options. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where he ends up.
