Depending on your current preference towards free-to-play games, we might have some bad news regarding the eventual state of Capcom’s upcoming deep down.

The exceptionally tough RPG slated to rock the PlayStation 4, it turns out, will be a free-to-play offering.

Here’s the initial tweet from Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida that pointed us towards the news of deep down‘s pricing model.

And here’s a tweet from the official Japanese deep down Twitter account.

It reads, roughly, “Also, we announced at the event that deep down will be a free-to-play service on the PS4. Buy a PS4 and you can play deep down.”

Our own Ron Duwell was on the floor at Tokyo Game Show last week, and he was able to get some time in with deep down. You can read his hands-on preview in full here, but we thought this snippet was great.

Are you a fan of FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series? Someone at Capcom obviously is. The studio’s next gen dungeon crawling RPG, deep down, takes more than a few notes from the award winning action series, but only in the best ways.

deep down will be accessible on the PlayStation 4. We do not have a release date yet for the title. We’ll have more on the game as it comes.
