Hideo Kojima's a weird dude, and he's as goofy as he is weird. Cue the Death Stranding trailer debuted at tonight's Game Awards, featuring horror director Guillermo Del Toro as a character in the game and Mads Mikkelsen as one of the game's villains.

In tonight's trailer, we get a closer look at the bizarre, oily world Kojima is creating. The aliens (they're aliens, right?) seem to work by possessing human beings and gear, and do so through mechanical-looking tentacles. I'm guessing those will be called strands, because that sounds like something Kojima would do.

The graphics shown off in trailer were rendered in real-time at 4K resolution by PlayStation 4 Pro hardware. There are likely some technical caveats to that, but it's looking good.

It's not much to work with.

Even without any gameplay, the game looks supremely weird, and that's pretty much all we can ask of Hideo Kojima right now. I'm eager to see more of the game and just what Kojima has in store for us, and even more eager to see what sort high-minded ideas Kojima hopes to impart.

It's not much to work with, but it'll do for now. Death Stranding doesn't have a release date yet but, as Kojima Productions is working closely with Sony, the game is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, and PC – eventually.
