Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool, was a huge success for both Marvel and Fox when he finally made it to the big screen in proper form last winter. Ryan Reynolds’ love for the character and particular sense of humor seemed a perfect pairing for the wise-cracking assassin, and it resonated with fans. Now, Deadpool is making his way to the small screen as an animated series, this time with a different name attached: Donald Glover.

FXX and Marvel have announced that Glover will be overseeing the 10-episode season, though there’s no word yet on whether he’ll be lending his voice to the role or not.

Like fine wine, a stuffed unicorn, and a Golden Girls marathon

I love everything about this arrangement. FXX is a great place for a raunchy character like Deadpool, and an animated format leaves room for all kinds of shenanigans. Donald Glover’s comedy chops on shows like Atlanta and Community give me some confidence that the show is in good hands. If he voices the character, I certainly won’t be complaining.

Deadpool, FXX, and Glover are all looking at a busy season next year. The Glover-helmed show will debut sometime in 2018, and the sequel to the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever is set to hit theaters right in the middle of blockbuster season on June 1. Meanwhile, this is an expansion of Fox’s presence among the growing list of superhero shows, with Deadpool’s show sitting alongside the live-action show Legion. And finally, Glover’s show Atlanta will see its second season hit FX next year, as well.

Also, this now leaves room for a crossover between Archer and Deadpool. Make it happen, Fox.
