I’ve been writing about video games, entertainment, and tech for most of a decade at this point. We’ve covered a lot of weird stuff here at TechnoBuffalo. But I never, ever thought we’d be covering Céline Dion. But here we are, because 2018 has to just keep getting weirder. At least this time we can blame Deadpool. Deadpool 2 hits theaters in just two weeks at this point, and the marketing machine is running at full speed. But because this is Deadpool, the marketing machine looks really strange. It involves Good Housekeeping and Normal Rockwell paintings and stuff you wouldn’t see in any other comic-movie campaign.

Ahead of the movie’s release, musician and vocalist Céline Dion has released her single from the Deadpool 2 soundtrack, “Ashes.” It has all the trademarks of a classic from the singer. Slow, somber piano with epic, swelling crescendos (I don’t know very many music words), flow-y white gowns, dramatic clips from the movie playing in slow motion, and of course, Deadpool doing an interpretive dance about beauty coming out of the ashes.

Even if you find it hard to make it through Dion’s vocals, just be patient – it’s worth the wait. Some of those moves strongly suggest that Ryan Reynolds is not, in fact, in the Merc with a Mouth’s red duds in this video, but he did work for over a decade to get the first Deadpool made, so he had plenty of time to learn how to dance like an actual angel. We’re not the only ones taking notice, though. Even Dance Magazine is noting that Deadpool dances “actually rather well,” noting the quality of his turns, his ease onto the floor, and his leg extensions during kicks.

Yeah, this is definitely a story about Deadpool.

Along with Dion, the Deadpool 2 soundtrack includes exactly the kind of songs you’d expect to find on Deadpool’s iPod, including Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time,” “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton, “We Belong” by Pat Benatar, an unplugged version of a-ha’s “Take On Me,” and of course, “Bangarang” by Skrillex.

Deadpool 2 hits theaters on May 17 with an official release date of May 18, so just run this on repeat until then and you’ll be in the right mood for Deadpool and the new X-Force.
