Darksiders 2

Following up on this past weekend's leak of the Darksiders 2: Defintive Edition through Amazon, Nordic Games has confirmed that the game will indeed be getting a "next-gen" re-release.

When speaking with GameSpot on the leak, a representative of Nordic Games stated that "the authenticity of the listing is unquestionable," but had nothing else to say about the project at this time. He did not mention the possibility of an Xbox One port, but I think its safe to assume that both consoles will walk away with their own version of the game.

The price was set at $39.99 before the page was taken down. Other Nordic Games' leaks from the weekend extended to an entire library of re-releases including MX vs. ATV: Supercross Encore EditionThe Legend of KayThe Book of Unwritten Tales 2 and Arcania – The Complete Tale. Most of these are franchises that Nordic Games has acquired over the years through bankruptcy auctions and acquisitions.

It's always been my position that every game in existence has the right to be enjoyed by a modern audience, even the ones that don't leave a huge impression like Darksiders 2. Cherry picking the best of the best for modern releases and ignoring all the others creates a video game history where only critical hits and massively budgeted games survive and our favorite cult hits slowly die off.

And in the meantime, I'm still not playing Brave Fencer Musashi on my PS Vita!

"Definitive Editions" are a solid temporary patch for this transition phase between console generations, but we have over 30 years of history that needs attendance to. Plenty of games are being left behind in the jump to the digital future, and piracy is the only way to preserve games that publishers no longer care about. Let's get on fixing that!
