We’ve already heard one rumor about how Dark Souls III was allegedly in the works and would be officially announced at E3 2015, so how about a dozen more rumors and a gallery to boot? The Know has a leaked a healthy helping of screenshots that seem legit enough to be believed.

I suppose the big question that remains about these is if the final product will look anywhere close to what From Software and Bancai Namco will advertise.

The Know also claims to have several more bits of information on the game including:

  • Dark Souls III will launch for the PlaySation 4 and Xbox One in 2016. A PC version is “negotiable,” but it sounds like something that Bandai Namco will definitely be doing based on the company’s tendencies and focus on the PC ports recently.
  • The game can be played with 1-4 players, wih co-op and PVP options
  • 10 character classes will all be available from the beginning of the game
  • 100 new weapons, 40 new pieces of armor, and plenty of popular equipment can be salvaged across the world
  • 45 new enemies, 15 new bosses, recurring monsters and characters on top of those figures
  • 60 minutes of in-engine cutscenes
  • 12 areas
  • a new system called “Sacrifice Ceremonies” will allow you to drag around the corpses of fallen characters, perform a ritual, and use that to break into their game and become a target for hunting.
  • Sacrificing bodies can also intensify fire pits
  • Bosses have a new “Heat up” method which will change their fighting style in surprising ways.
  • Dark Souls III will feature a new system called “Sword Fighting Arts,” and several attacks that fall under this category are “Rush In,” a sacrifice attack which causes the player damage but also deals massive damage, and another one called “Circle.”

That’s all she wrote. Sounds legit, but we’ll have to wait another week to see if all this is true at E3 2015. If we are lucky, Bandai Namco will have the game ready to show off. Just be wary about believing Dark Souls trailers and demos. What you see is not always what you get.

Any thoughts or love for Dark Souls III? I liked the first two games, Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, and I am also into Bloodborne, but Dark Souls II just didn’t stick with me the same way. Whether it felt like the series succumbing to repetitive AAA tendencies or feeling like an afterthought while From Software put all of its focus into Bloodborne, I just didn’t like it as much.

With no Bloodborne to worry about, enough time between releases, and the original director back in his chair, he was absent from Dark Souls II, maybe From Software can turn Dark Souls III into a game that will win me back in a similar fashion to how Dark Souls II pushed me away.
