Namco Bandai is pulling out all the stops this year. Committing to the free-to-play model for what seems like a long term venture and pitching in to create the latest Super Smash Bros. is just the beginning of what one of Japan’s oldest gaming entities has to offer. Namco Bandai has never had a problem playing both the casual and serious sides of the gaming industry, and most of these Japanese exclusive games will likely never leave the country. Licensed games based off of animes, singing simulators starring popular girl band AKB-48, and Pokemon’s failed rival Digimon are being shown alongside some seriously quality software.

Of the ones that will make it to foreign shores, Namco Bandai has a lot of quality titles to show off. Dark Souls II will continue FromSoftware’s critically successful series of brutal action dungeon crawling games, and Armored Core: Verdict Day will also be ready from the emerging B-list development team.

Ace Combat: Infinity will be shown off at the Sony booth, and both Tekken Revolution and SoulCalibur: Lost Swords are set to make an appearance. The only major PlayStation 3 free-to-play game to be absent is Ridge Racer Driftopia, which has already been available in its retail form Ridge Racer Unbounded for over a year now.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles will be huge, seeing as it is the most popular game in Namco Bandai’s most popular JRPG series. Beyond that, I’m am going to be checking out Game Center CX 3-chome no Arino, the next in the Retro Gaming Challenge series.

Thanks to its willingness to embrace new payment methods without sacrificing its legacy, I’d go so far as to say Namco Bandai is currently the most exciting of the major Japanese publishers these days. From the looks of it, I’ll be spending quite a lot of time at its booth this week at TGS.
