The second patch for Dark Souls 3 is hitting today – 1.04 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, 1.03.1 on PC. The changes are pretty minor, but the patch itself is symbolic of changes within From Software.
The changes seem pretty narrow and specific with this patch:
- Performance adjustment for Greatsword.
- Battle performance adjustment for Dancer’s Enchanted Sword and Winged Knight Twinaxes.
- Performance adjustments for Soul’s Greatsword and Farron Flashsword.
- Fix for issue where multiple items become impossible to use at Road of Sacrifices, Farron Keep, Cathedral of the Deep after clearing the game.
The first patch, bringing the game up to 1.03, was huge. After reviewing the game, I stepped away for a few days. During my review time with it, I found the game’s performance to be incredibly inconsistent, with each area seeming to have its own framerate. The 1.03 patch seems to have resolved that entirely. Whereas before I couldn’t get 30 frames per second on medium in some places, I can now get a fully 60 frames per second on maximum settings with a GTX 970 graphics card.
That the game is getting so many patches so quickly, even if they are multiplatform, is indicative of From taking a better approach to PC gaming this time around. The first patch was major and fixed some serious issues just days after launch, and this second patch is already tweaking things to improve the game’s multiplayer experience.
If you’re a multi-platform gamer, PC is looking to be the place to check out this final iteration of the Dark Souls series.
