The problem with wearing a mask to protector your public identity is that someone else can put on your mask and no one knows any differently. This new trailer for Daredevil season 3 gives us a more detailed look at the upcoming season, and identity seems to be at the core of the season. The Marvel Netflix Universe’s one masked hero is being unmasked.
While Wilson Fisk was up the river in season 2, Daredevil‘s third outing has him getting out of prison and revealing himself as a new man, changed by his time behind bars. He dons his comic-book counterpart’s iconic white jacket, and steps out into the light. We know better, though, and so does Matt Murdock, who isn’t nearly as dead as the end of The Defenders would’ve led his friends and loved ones to believe.
With Matt was out of commission following having a building and a few hundred feet of rocks falling on top of him, it seems Fisk found an advantage he could hold over the vigilante, and the trailer has the two coming face to face, Fisk showing his true self and Matt without a mask to hide behind.
Finally, this trailer reveals why we’ve been seeing Matt in his old-school ninja gear again despite having that dope red armor. He doesn’t have the armor because someone else is wearing it and doing very bad things in his name. This is likely Bullseye, one of Daredevil’s frequent foes and Wilson Fisk’s regular collaborators.
Everyone is being unmasked this year – Daredevil, Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk, Bullseye – all the secrets will be out before the season is over.
The season will likely pull from the classic Daredevil storyline, “Born Again,” as well as cribbing a few ideas from Kevin Smith’s “Guardian Devil” storyline, with a few major differences (Captain America and Mysterio won’t be showing up, for example).
The season is just two weeks away, and we can’t wait to binge it. Look for Daredevil season 3 to hit Netflix on October 19.
