The CyanogenMod team announced recently that CyanogenMod 11 M6 is now available for more than 50 devices. In a blog post, the team behind the project said that it will soon start to push out Milestone, or "M" releases instead of publications labeled "stable" or "RC" (release candidate) in the future. Part of the reason is to curtail concerns that the team is moving slowly to hit stable releases.
"To answer why, you have to understand just what it was the 'stable' builds afforded us," Cyanogen said. "Beyond just being a trusted label to assuage the more risk-adverse users, it was our marker for accepting reports to our bug tracker. This had a few pain points, but most notable it meant months of code would be introduced with no particular predictability, which led to gaps between identifying issues from your reports, fixing them and then releasing them in the next stable."
Cyanogen said its goal is to get releases out every two weeks, but right now the "M" release schedule is to push an update out once every four weeks. The company hopes to get to a two-week release stage by the end of this year. Here's a look at the changes in M6:
