Sony has confirmed that Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be hitting the PlayStation 4 on June 30. The HD remake of the three PSOne Classics has been teased for some time by Activision and developer Vicarious Visions, but now that he have a release date, there’s nothing but time between now and then.

In a post on PlayStation Blog, Vicarious Visions took a lot of questions from fans who are eagerly anticipating the final product. For example, the team answered questions on the biggest differences between this and the original.

What has changed from the original games in the environment art?

This is a great question and something that we’ve been working pretty hard on. The addition of real-time lighting in a PBR (Physically Based Rendering) engine, along with an increase in texture size, can sometimes make our environments look different than the originals.

Generally, while we strive to recreate each level so it looks and feels like the original, we also want to make sure that environments are fun, colorful, and read well in the fast-paced action with the addition of the new technology we are using.

Take that statement as you see fit. I’m perfectly fine with a game playing with dated mechanics, but I wonder how many younger players will tolerate the simplicity and linearity of these games. Challenge is no longer a question here since Dark Souls and the indie scene have done a great job of rekindling the spirit of challenge that burned back then.

However, the linearity and simplicity, not to mention the stiff physics, might be a little too dated for some to enjoy. It’s not impossible, but I’m not sure if this bundle has the chance to pick up new fans. This might be just a gift for the ones who already exist.
