During its Xbox One presentation at E3 this year, Microsoft announced the long awaited return of its cult-favorite open-world shooter franchise, Crackdown, with the third entry in the series.

Xbox Boss Phil Spencer announced that the creator of the original game, Dave Jones, is returning to the game and heading development of Crackdown 3. Along with him, the voice of the Agency, Michael McConnohie, will also be returning with his second-to-none flare for narration and instructions.

Go Agent! Go!

Crackdown 3 will feature a colorful look, different from the comic book cel-shaded look of the original, but still unlike anything else out there. Online co-op will return for more sandboxing fun, and along with it, all the high-flying acrobatic jumps across the Pacific City skyline.

The original Crackdown was originally released by Realtime Studios in 2007, and it came bundled with the beta to the Halo 3 multiplayer. Players who picked it found that the actual game they purchased wasn't half that bad, and word of mouth quickly spread. It's always been a favorite of mine, and it has survived all years as one of my favorite Xbox 360 exclusives.

Crackdown 2 was not as well received, but was still a competent game. Hopefully Jones' presence will help in recapturing that creative atmosphere which made the first one so great. We'll be keeping an eye on Crackdown 3, so stay tuned for more for the rest of E3.
