Conan O’Brien has a wonderful ongoing series called Clueless Gamer where he plays and rates some of the most popular titles currently on the market. In the past, O’Brien has played Tomb Raider, Halo 4 and he’s even shown up on the E3 floor. Each and every episode shows O’Brien’s lack of enthusiasm for video games in general—”I don’t play games. I don’t like games.”—as he pokes fun at the gaming culture. They’re all in good fun, and consistently hilarious.
In a new episode released this week, Conan plays Atari 2600 classics, including Pitfall, Missile Command and, yes, the much-maligned E.T.—regarded as the worst game ever. This episode in particular shows a rather unenthused O’Brien as he tries to endure games that are decades old. The graphics, obviously, haven’t quite held up throughout the years, and neither has the gameplay for most titles. But he trudges on, bravely, stupidly.
“This may be the worst day of my life,” O’Brien says.
The whole episode clocks in at just under eight minutes, and Conan does actually find a title that he mildly enjoys (Space Invaders). If you’re a fan of the Clueless Gamer series, this episode certainly doesn’t disappoint. And as one commenter of the video says, “We need more Clueless Gamers.” We do indeed.
