Intelligent Systems' excellent looking strategy game, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M, got a Nintendo 3DS release date of March 13 during yesterday's Nintendo Direct presentation.

More importantly, though, Nintendo has finally found a use for those Fire Emblem amiibo characters that would otherwise be gaining dust until that new Fire Emblem game comes out. Both Marth and Ike, also creations of Intelligent Systems, have been confirmed to interact with Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. in the absolute best way I've seen the amiibos used yet.

Placing the Marth or Ike amiibo on the New Nintendo 3DS touchscreen will zap the Fire Emblem warriors into the battlefield as totally playable characters! Yes, this has an actual tangential affect on the gameplay at hand, making it far and away the best use of the amiibo figurine line yet. I've never really wanted to see Abraham Lincoln and Prince Marth in the same video game, but now that I know this can happen, I am all the more intrigued.

The Lucina or Robin amiibo figurines will also be compatible with Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. when they launch later in April.

Nintendo also assured fans who have not yet scored a Marth figurine that more are on the way and will be readily available for Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.'s launch on March 13. Hopefully, more Ike figurines will also creep back into stores as well.

Now that the Fire Emblem figurines have a legitimate use beyond the borders of Super Smash Bros., who is the next useless amiibo character you want to see used in another game? I'm hoping Nintendo can come up with something for Ness before Wave 4 comes out. Not that there will be an Earthbound 4 or anything, but what use does Ness possibly have outside of Super Smash Bros?
