Thanks to his rapid geriatric tendencies, we still have not gotten a full chance to see true face of the legendary Solid Snake rendered with modern technology. Only in the PS3 and Xbox 360 ports of Metal Gear Solid 2 is the character seen as we like to remember him in full blown HD: young, muscular, headband concealing a glorious mullet.
Well, PlayStation owners will get to see the character exclusively in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Recently announced at the PlayStation 4 launch, the PlayStation 3 and 4 versions of the game will feature a special “Déjà Vu” mission which will take Snake back in time to 1998 when he first starred in the original Metal Gear Solid.
Sad part is that we still don’t get to see the fully engraved face of Solid Snake. Hideo Kojima and his… endearing sense of humor will deny us of that yet again with this new “Classic Snake” looking just like he did in 1998. Low-polygon count and all. How hilarious…
Konami mentions the “Classic Snake” mode in a statement.
Retracing 16 years of history, the PlayStation-Exclusive “Déjà Vu” mission brings players back to the 1998 PlayStation classic “Metal Gear Solid”. In an age when graphics were limited to blocky pixelated polygons, Metal Gear Solid set new standards in video game storytelling with its memorable characters, cinematic presentation, and complex story. Relive the most memorable moments of the past with this Sony-exclusive mission on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Past and present collide as the characters and camera angles you remember from the 16-year old classic are brought to life the high-fidelity world of MGS:GZ!
No release date yet, but Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has officially been priced at $19.99 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, and $29.99 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. Remember, this is just a prologue for the main event Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Kojima thinks you need this to warm up to Snake being playable in an open world. Really, it’s just a glorified tech-demo for the new FOX engine, but my inner fanboy won’t let me stop looking at that great price. Can’t… fight it!
