You might know Choice Provisions by their original name, Gaijin Games. If you pay attention to game releases, you almost certainly know their titles. These are the folks behind the Bit.Trip series, among others.

Choice Provision has elected to shut down its San Francisco office. They are set to “refocus” their efforts on their headquarters in Santa Cruz. This move was done because the company learned that operating two studios “was just not sustainable in the long term.”

The closure included layoffs, as well.

The word comes from the official company blog in a post written by Alex Neuse and Mike Roush, co-founders of Choice Provisions. They offer that the industry is changing.

Over the past few years, the game industry has changed so dramatically that a mid-sized studio operating as we have for the past several years, just simply can’t continue in the same way.

It’s a shame to see any company affected like this. Best to those who lost their jobs.
