You might have seen Child of Light recently popping up on our “Most Anticipated Games” series, but now we have something a little more concrete to work with, namely a release date and a price.
Ubisoft’s ode to the JRPG of old will be released on April 30, and it will set you back $14.99. This comes as quite a relief seeing as though the director believes the value to be that of a full blown retail game at $60.
The new trailer shows off a few of the game’s mechanics, especially the combination of the classic turn-based battle system and how it meshes with the 2D platforming levels. Child of Light also features an items creation system which allows for over 600 different combinations. I have to admit, my heart nearly failed when that menu popped up and it look like a Bejewelled minigame clone. Whew, that was a close one.
Child of Light is obviously a passion project from the Far Cry 3 team in the halls of Ubisoft, and I really hope it is a success. If Ubisoft sets a precedent with this recent love towards more indie styled games, maybe some of the other big studios out there can shake up a bit of the creativity in their employees minds. I might do wonders for the triple AAA market. You never know.
Child of Light will be released on April 30 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U and PC. Which will you be playing it for?
