If the counter on the bottom right corner of this trailer is to be believed (and I assume it is), gamers will have access to at least 70 unique courses once they buy Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Wii U this holiday.

This game has been a bit of a mixed bag in terms of hype and perception. The title is based on the random mini levels within Super Mario 3D World that launched last year. They took Toad’s exploits and blew them out to a full game for $39.99. Despite the slight budget price, some have wondered if there’s enough in the way of unique mechanics here to warrant a full release.

I assume this trailer, what with its “Mini-Universes Galore” title, is meant to tell gamers who might be wary that there’s a whole lot going on in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

Well, it convinced me. I’ve been sort of on the fence about whether or not to get excited for this thing. Knowing that I’ll be in for 70 different courses complete with their own theme when it launches? Yeah, I could see settling in to relaxing rounds of puzzle solving with Captain Toad for a few weeks this holiday.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will release on the Wii U on Dec. 5, 2014. We’ll have more on the game as it comes.
