Captain Marvel does a nice job of exploring the origin of Carol Danvers while introducing her as a powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As we saw in the mid-credits scene, her arrival back on Earth could turn the tide in a post-Decimation world.

Here's what happens in Captain Marvel's post-credits scenes

Carol isn't the only hero who could play a massive role in the future of the MCU. Marvel might also bring back Monica Rambeau (Akira Akbar), who was the daughter of Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch). In the comics, Maria actually took over the mantle of Captain Marvel long before Carol ever did.

Who is Monica Rambeau?

When we meet Monica Rambeau in Captain Marvel, she's a precocious 11-year-old who is key to helping Carol remember her past life on Earth. But she might also prove to be a key part of the overall MCU, if she does indeed evolve into the hero she is in the comics.

Introduced in 1982, Monica was a lieutenant in the New Orleans harbor patrol, where she was involved in an accident that exposed her to extra-dimensional energy. The aftermath gives her the ability to convert her body into any form of energy within the electromagnetic spectrum, similar to Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel.

Monica is the second person to take on the name Captain Marvel after Mar-Vell, though she had no ties to the Kree warrior. Instead, she's dubbed Captain Marvel by the media following her accident. With her new powers, she decides to use them for good and joins up with the Avengers, leading the team for a time.

Who is Mar-Vell in Captain Marvel?

Captain Marvel would later give up her name to Genis-Vell, the son of Mar-Vell and original Captain Marvel. Since then, she has taken on numerous names, including Photon and Spectrum. Seeing as Maria Rambeau's callsign is Photon in the movie, it's possible Monica will assume that identity if she does make her heroic debut.

Will she appear in Avengers: Endgame?

Marvel did a nice job establishing the relationship between Maria, Monica, and Carol. And we saw how fascinated Monica was with Carol when she turned up with superpowers. She even helped Carol pick the colors of her iconic outfit.

Everything you need to know about Captain Marvel

With Avengers: Endgame on the horizon, it wouldn't be surprising to see an older version of Monica show up. She doesn't need to have a huge role, but it could further cement the character as someone who will be important moving forward.

When Avengers: Endgame concludes, not all of the heroes we're used to seeing will return. Monica Rambeau could become one of Marvel's heroes for the future, part of a changing of the guard as Marvel explores beyond Iron Man and Captain America.

Everything you need to know about Avengers: Endgame

Not much is know about what's going to happen after Avengers: Endgame. As of now, we're expecting Spider-Man: Far From Home, as well as sequels for Black Panther and Doctor Strange. Beyond that, Monica Rambeau could very much be in the mix.

Higher, Further, Faster

Captain Marvel

A solid, if predictable, balance of action and giggles.

Captain Marvel reaches out to every corner of the Cinematic Universe in an attempt to tie this new character into the whole series so far. But the movie struggles with classic prequel story mistakes while relying on a standard origin story format we've seen so many times already.
