Leading up to the release of Avengers: Infinity War, one of the most popular practices has been predicting who will die. Of course we got into the action as well. Our top pick was Captain America – he just seemed like the most logical choice – and it seems we were dead on.

Captain America actor Chris Evans has been on the press junket of late, and when he went on Good Morning America, he talked about the future of the character. In unsurprising news, he was lukewarm at best about offering fans of the character hope the superhero would be returning after Avengers 4. Here’s what Evans had to say about the ongoing question:

Well, the contract’s done. A lot of our contracts are through. Myself, Downey, Hemsworth, we all kind of started roughly at the same time. I mean, I think we all through Avengers 4 kind of wrap it up. But at this point I don’t know what’s next, but yeah by 2019 that’s it… Well, we’ll see.

That sounds like Captain America is a goner to me. It might be a movie later than we predicted, but Evans did not in anyway leave hope for the opposite. Not only is the character’s main storyline in the MCU winding down, but Evans’ contract is also done after Avengers 4. Those two reasons seem to be hurdling into the inevitability of Captain America biting the dust very soon.

None of this is breaking news. It’s actually been known for a while, but there was still hope that things would work out. With Avengers: Infinity War set to be released in a matter of days and Avengers 4 in just over a year, it’s time to start accepting that Captain America may truly die.
