Nielsen is chiming in on video games nowadays, I guess, and it has an intriguing list that is sure to cause some discussion in the video game world. Based on its research, the group claims that it knows the most highly anticipated release of the 2015 holiday season.

And that game is Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Go figure.

While some might shrug and say “Duh, who doesn’t buy Call of Duty?” others, i.e. the people who don’t buy Call of Duty, might contend that there should be little to no question that Fallout 4 is in fact the most highly anticipated game of the holiday season. Nielsen doesn’t think those people are far off from the truth. After surveying 48,000 gamers, Fallout 4, with a 95 percent rating, follows right behind Call of Duty: Black Ops III, which dominated the list at 98 percent.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate also clocked in at 95 percent as well, tying Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG.

It just goes to show that while Fallout 4 may be more of a “gamer’s game,” Call of Duty is still enjoyed by a much larger audience beyond what we consider to be the vocal gamer crowd. Doesn’t surprise me one bit.

Other interesting information is that Halo 5: Guardians pulled in 100 percent of the console exclusive vote, whereas Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection only scored 70 percent. True, it’s an original game compared to a bundle of older games, but these are supposedly the two marquis exclusive franchises these days. Leaves me wondering how Uncharted 4 would fare.

Any thoughts on Nielsen’s research? Makes me sad nobody wants Dragon Quest Heroes, Disgaea 5, or The Legend of Legacy, which I think are my big games for the remainder of the year. Boohoo for Japanese games… unless you’re Corpse Party. Makes me wonder if the folks at Nielsen had fun researching that one.
