The Call of Duty franchise has certainly gone a long way over the past few years. From its humble beginnings as a World War II shooter with a dedicated focus on single-player excellence, the game has now blossomed into a global phenomenon with an emphasis on multiplayer interaction and immersion.

Having sold about 12 million units according to NPD Group's monthly analysis of the gaming industry, it would be foolish for Activision to not milk this cow for all that it is worth. Previous DLC for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 generated roughly $300 million in sales for Activision Blizzard.

The new DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops, titled "First Strike," features four new maps alongside a new zombie map. It hits the Xbox 360 on Feb. 1st, and no solid details have been divulged concerning the PS3 and PC release dates.
