One of the most addictive and rewarding elements within the original Burnout titles was the Crash Mode. It was like, basically, puzzle, one-shot pinball. You drove your car into traffic in order to cause the most destructive and expensive calamity possible.

You were rewarded for your actions with scores, met objectives and even achievements. It was madness, and it was glorious.

Criterion Games, the studio responsible for the Burnout titles you love, is bringing the Crash Mode to the Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network with Burnout Crash! That exclamation point is part of the title, it does not necessarily signify my raw excitement for the game. Sorry.

As seen above, the perspective and toony look are both new to the franchise with this downloadable game. This is actually the point that I think most diehard fans will find themselves dinging the decision to go the downloadable route over a full Burnout game.

Creative Director Richard Franke was quoted in the official press release for this new title as he explains exactly what it is about Burnout Crash! that we should all be excited about.

"Burnout CRASH! is a crazy mix of pinball and game shows…We've evolved the core gameplay which everyone loved about Crash Mode, and expanded the whole experience using music, style and Autolog to create what we feel is the most mindless fun you can have on any gaming platform."

Burnout Crash! will also feature Kinect multiplayer. Two gamers will be able to get together and use gestural control to play a party crash mode. This mode hasn't been detailed at all beyond that blip.

If Burnout Crash! is anywhere even close to as addictive as its been in previous full games, we're sold. This game will release for both the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade in the fall of this year.
