Destiny (4)

When it comes to Destiny, one of the most problematic playing issues comes from the inability to consistently get a group of friends together in order to play. The social features of the game, or lack thereof in most cases, make partying up with strangers tough.

Take, for instance, the Vault of Glass Raid. There's no matchmaking for this, so that means you have to find players on your own to tackle the exceptionally hard and lengthy mission. Bungie's initial reasoning for developing the Raid with this missing feature? It's so hard that you'll want highly coordinated friends instead of strangers.

That hasn't stopped the community for asking for matchmaking in raids, though. It was one of the questions asked of Bungie the most in its mailbag, and the studio responded.

That's a really tricky topic.

You don't need to sell us too hard on the value of Matchmaking at Bungie. It's something we helped to pioneer. Yet, we understand its limitations. In the recipe of a Bungie game, Matchmaking has always contributed the ingredient of a team built to play one match of competitive multiplayer. As you've probably witnessed in recent weeks (or years), many of those fresh allies have failed to go the distance together.

After acknowledging that they understand matchmaking, Bungie goes on to indicate that the need for it in raids has been both heard and discussed.

The best I can do to answer your question is to let you know that you've been heard. We're having conversations about how Matchmaking might support the more challenging activities in Destiny. It's a start. Keep sounding off about it, and maybe someday some matchmade Fireteam mates will hear you, too.

Right, they're considering it, but it sounds like they aren't ready to do anything about it just yet.

I get that matchmaking might be tough for these Raids, but I know for a fact that I have a better shot beating the Vault of Glass with random strangers than I do with the three people I know playing Destiny on the PlayStation 4. Four gamers does not a raid party make in Destiny, and that's why I personally want matchmaking to show up here.

How about you?
