BlackBerry Q10-VS-Z10-Back

After clearing out much of its executive team and even cutting ties with singer Alicia Keys, BlackBerry announced its first major hire under new CEO John Chen. The Canadian smartphone-maker announced earlier this week that Ron Louks, a former executive at both HTC and Sony, will join the company as president of devices and emerging solutions.

Louks will focus on "BlackBerry's longterm roadmap," according to Chen, covering everything from hardware to software design as well as new joint development efforts with carriers and partners like Foxconn. "I am confident that Ron will bring the skills and expertise that will make an immediate impact to BlackBerry and to our customers around the world," the company's CEO said.

Before taking his new position at BlackBerry, Louks served as head of strategy for Taiwanese smartphone-maker HTC's American division and also worked at Sony Ericsson as head of technology before the joint mobile venture was taken over entirely by Sony. Most recently, Louks was CEO at OpenNMS Group, a network management platform geared towards enterprise clients.
