If you're still holding on to your old PlayBook we've got some good news. BlackBerry is apparently considering a follow-up tablet. VP of global product management Francois Mahieu admitted the company has been eyeing the market in an interview with Pocket-Lint, but added that there are no concrete plans to release a new PlayBook any time soon.

"Would BlackBerry consider one day re-entering the tablet market? Yes. Will BlackBerry do it in the coming months? No," Mahieu said. "I wouldn't be surprised if we have a meeting one day and I show you a tablet. We have equity in that space, but we're not ready. We need more time."

The original 7-inch PlayBook received mixed reviews when it first hit the market. While the hardware impressed many, the software and UI had some gaping holes. BlackBerry fixed most of these issues with feature updates, and despite these setbacks, Mahieu argues that "everybody loved it" even if the PlayBook "was no huge success."

Back in 2012 several images of a 10-inch PlayBook leaked online, sparking rumors that BlackBerry would release a new tablet. When Thorstein Heins took over as CEO that year he also hinted at the possibility of a PlayBook follow-up, but in the face growing financial woes the rumors fizzled. Now that BlackBerry is on the rebound it's possible we'll see a new PlayBook after all, though clearly the company isn't ready to make any concrete promises just yet.
