I guess the people have spoken. They really like Call of Duty. This annual mechanical beast that Activision has built itself upon over the last several years has set yet another milestone for itself with the latest game in the series. Call of Duty: Black Ops II has become the most pre-ordered game in the history of GameStop.

Can anyone remember when this was just a fun little World War II game on the PC? Those were the sweet old days.

GameStop’s President Tony Bartel has commented:

“Consumer anticipation for Call of Duty: Black Ops II is tremendous. We are seeing the highest pre-orders in history. With its current pace, this Call of Duty is on track to break records and is likely to be our biggest game launch of all time.”

Kind of shocking since Call of Duty fans have already bought the game the year before that…and the year before that…and the year before that. Seriously folks, there are plenty of options out there. Halo 4, Grand Theft Auto 5, Far Cry 3, or how about something totally new like Dishonored? You’re starting to make Nintendo fanboys look liberal in their game purchases.

I’ll be the first to admit that the Call of Duty games are well made and deserve their positive critical reception, but I just don’t like being choked with all these rapid fire releases from year to year. I prefer to let my hype simmer for two, three or even four years and explore other realms of fun.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is still sitting on my shelf and is still a blast to play if I need a quick fix. Why bother replacing it?

Call of Duty: Black Ops II will be released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on November 13th. It will launch for the Wii U on November 18th.
