Stand Mixers HeroSource: Kitchenaid

Best Stand Mixer TechnoBuffalo 2021

Every avid baker dreams of shiny appliances that will take some of the considerable time and effort out of crafting delicious loaves of bread and desserts. Especially those culinary artists that bake daily know how time-consuming and exhausting it can be to beat egg whites, knead the dough, and whip frosting - sometimes all at the same time! If this sounds like you, then a proper stand mixer will do you a world of good. You can save hours of work and improve your multitasking skills with a stand mixer by your side; the question is which to choose! My personal favorite is the KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer because of it has a decent capacity without taking up too much space, and it offers excellent quality for the price. See it below alongside a few other great options to improve your mixing game.

Best Value: Sunbeam MixMaster Stand Mixer

Sunbeam Mixmaster HeroSource: Sunbeam

It may be a bit smaller than most heavy-duty mixers, but the Sunbeam MixMaster holds four quarts and you really can't beat that price. With 12 mixing speeds, a three-way mixing action, and two dough hooks included, this little mixer can handle most any batter or dough. The beaters are built off-center to the bowl, so you have plenty of room to add ingredients as you go. The head tilts back to allow easy removal of the bowl as well, so you don't have to worry about tilting or splashing its contents. Lightweight compared to its competitors, this appliance is easy to move and store if needed. Although it does slow down considerably with the thickest bread doughs, it will still get the job done. You may need to scrape the bowl more often with the MixMaster since its beaters won't touch the sides of the bowl like some more expensive mixers, but at this price, there's no better stand mixer anywhere.

Pros:

  • Amazing price
  • 12 mixing speeds
  • Tilting head mechanism

Cons:

  • Has a hard time with thick bread dough
  • Requires occasional bowl scraping to mix efficiently

Now, this is an appliance that's built to last, even in a busy restaurant kitchen. With a heavy-duty die-cast aluminum body and all-metal gears, it won't fall apart or break down. The big eight-quart bowl and extra-large attachments allow you to make up to 15 dozen cookies at once! While the mixer only gives you seven speeds to work with, the attachments go all the way to the bottom of the bowl so it can thoroughly mix any type of dough, batter, cream, or sauce. The Hamilton Beach Commercial Stand Mixer comes with a stainless steel dough hook, beater, and wire whisk. Whether you just love to bake for family and friends, or if you need a serious stand mixer for your baking business, this one can handle anything you throw at it.

Best Mini Mixer KitchenAid Mini 3.5 Quart Stand Mixer

Kitchenaid Artisan Mini Stand Mixer HeroSource: Kitchenaid

Aww how cute! A mini mixer! While the KitchenAid Mini Mixer certainly leaves a small footprint in your kitchen, it is still equipped with a 3.5-quart bowl, which is actually plenty big enough to mix up a double batch of any standard cake or cookie recipe. KitchenAid did make it to fit into small kitchens though; it is sleek and small in design, so you won't lose too much counter space with this little number. Despite its small size, the Mini Mixer is still equipped with a powerful motor and 10 mixing speeds, so it can handle most all baking jobs. It also has the option to fit up to 10 different attachments, so it's almost as versatile as its bigger sisters in the KitchenAid lineup. The only problem we see with this mixer is that the bowl is a little too "mini" in relation to the attachments, so it's difficult to fit a spatula into the side of the bowl to scrape off any sticky ingredients.

Pros:

  • Small and lightweight
  • Powerful and versatile with 10 mixing speeds
  • Lots of lovely color options

Cons:

  • Too small to scrape bowl during use
  • Won't fit more than one or two batches at a time

Most Versatile: Cuisinart 5.5 Quart Stand Mixer

Cuisinart Stand Mixer HeroSource: Cuisineart

With a 500-watt motor and 12 mixing speeds, the Cuisinart mixer packs in more power than most of its competitors. This makes it a great option for making more time-intensive foods that go beyond baking, such as meat grinding for sausage and kneading pasta dough. Cuisinart makes tons of attachments to go with this mixer, including meat grinders, specialized pasta cutters, ice cream makers, and a spiralizer. When it comes to versatility and power, this is your stand mixer. Bear in mind that the mixer arrives pre-adjusted to mix larger batches, so you'll need to adjust the beaters in order to make small batches. Once adjusted though, it works like a charm on any size batch.

Pros:

  • Powerful motor
  • 12 mixing speeds
  • Versatile attachment options

Cons:

  • Requires some adjustments to work with smaller batches
  • Very heavy for its size

You'll want to consider the size of your kitchen and the size of your baking projects before making a decision. Choose the right size, wattage, and color so that it fits perfectly into your needs and kitchen decor.

Our pick would have to be the KitchenAid Artisan Series Stand Mixer for its long-standing reputation for quality and reliability. KitchenAid mixers, especially the Artisan Series, have been favored by bakers for decades for their ease-of-use and quality construction. Many a grandma (including mine!) still uses her KitchenAid 30 years after buying it. That's an appliance you can really rely on!
