Apple is at the top of the mobile industry again.
Following the latest report from Counterpoint Research, we can tell you the best-selling smartphone in the world as of May 2018 is the iPhone 8. The data revealed it’s the affordable iPhone model, not its pricey sibling, that was more popular than anything else in the market during that month. In fact, the iPhone X didn’t even land in second place.
The Galaxy S9 Plus, which arrived back in March, trailed just behind the leader and then Apple’s iPhone X rounded out the top three. Other products in the top ten came from Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, Huawei, and Vivo. But none were as successful as Apple and Samsung’s flagships.
If you check out Counterpoint Research’s analysis, you’ll see the iPhone 8 might’ve been boosted by the new ‘How to shoot on iPhone’ campaign. Apple has spent a significant amount of money to run these ads during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
As we move through the summer, both industry leaders will pivot to their newest flagships. While Samsung will introduce the Galaxy Note 9 on August 9, Apple’s trio of new iPhone models should debut in early September. Then it’ll be a battle into the fall and through the holidays to claim dominance.
