Star Wars Battlefront II just got a fantastic story credit. The game has two lead writers, based on the word from one of them on Twitter. One writer is former IGN editor Mitch Dyer, while the other is Walt Williams.
Walt Williams? He has a writing credit for Spec Ops: The Line.
So, why should this matter?
First off, if you’ve never heard of or played Spec Ops: The Line, you should. The game is a, well, decent military shooter, but its story elevates it to the status of one of the best in the genre. There are twists, turns and brutality throughout the campaign. It takes the “rah! rah!” attitude and completely turns it on its head.
I’m not sure Williams will have that same sort of creative freedom with a Star Wars title; but, if he has freedom that comes close at all, this game could be absolutely wild. That’s exactly what the campaign side of Star Wars games needs. The franchise needs a gaming slam dunk, and this writing credit is promising.
