Gearbox announced its next game: Battleborn. It’s a first person shooter with MOBA-style (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) elements.

Battleborn combines frenetic first-person shooting with co-operative combat, and an expansive collection of diverse heroes to create an experience unlike anything you’ve played before. Set in a distant future, the only hope for the last star in a dying universe is a new breed of warriors who must put aside their differences to drive back an unstoppable menace. Players choose from a myriad of powerful heroes and fight together alongside their friends in a narrative-driven co-operative campaign, or battle against them in fast-paced competitive multiplayer matches.

Unveiled as the next Game Informer cover title, Battleborn will be the feature story for August. The brief preview describes a 5 vs. 5 ‘Incursion’ mode that combines the leveling and creep combat of games like League of Legends with the cooperative first-person shooting Gearbox is known for.

The game is set with an intergalactic apocalypse as the backdrop, allowing a variety of disparate character types together, like a bow-wielding female elf, a clockwork gentleman sniper, and a giant with a minigun.

Battleborn is in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One with no release date set quite yet.
