The snap that erased half the universe in Avengers: Infinity War has officially been named by Marvel: the Decimation.
The revelation comes courtesy of Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War: the Cosmic Quest Volume Two: Aftermath, which details the attempts of Dr. Erik Selvig and Darcy Lewis to figure out what caused half the universe to disappear.
Apparently, the new story sees the Avengers keeping the truth behind what caused the Decimation. Only a few people know what truly happened in Wakanda; the general population knows an event caused people to suddenly disappear, but they don't know how.
It's unclear if the new details have any ties to Avengers 4's title or plot, as we know next to nothing aside from a few theories. We may, however, see a trailer drop as early as this Friday, though Marvel has confirmed or denied the rumors.
There's been a lot of evidence to suggest the official title of Avengers 4 will be Avengers: Annihilation, but decimation is also a fitting option. It has a more threatening and ominous tone.
Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
