Marvel wasted no time breaking our hearts when Avengers: Infinity War kicked off, killing Loki in the opening minutes. Turns out, it was a moment many of the cast and crew didn't even realize was going to happen until the day of shooting.

In Marvel's new art book celebrating the movie, an interview with executive producer Trinh Tran reveals the studio purposely faked people out.

"We created a version of the script where Loki would get away in an escape pod at the beginning of the movie," Tran said. "When we started shooting that particular sequence, we had crew members who were thoroughly confused. We had to let them know that those were fake versions of the script that they read."

Instead, audiences witnessed Thanos murder Loki right in front of Thor. It was the first of many heartbreaking moments in Avengers: Infinity War.

Soon after the movie hit theaters, fans begun to speculate that Loki deceived everyone and didn't actually die. In fact, there are multiple theories suggesting that he's doing just fine, and will return in Avengers 4.

We'll find out when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
