After months of anticipation, the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame dropped and it is a sad affair. We already covered it more in detail here, but all you need to know is that the remaining Avengers are really struggling to grapple with the fallout of Thanos' mass genocide.
Marvel has been very secretive about giving us information about the highly anticipated movie, yet it had to give us something in the new trailer and it certainly did. Some of the pieces we can extract from the trailer is a confirmation of which characters are alive and dead in the movie.
We know who didn't survive for the most part, but there were a few uncertainties that were confirmed in the trailer. The same goes for living characters who weren't even in Avengers: Infinity War but are ready for the battle in Endgame.
- Tony Stark
- Black Widow
- Captain America
The ending of Infinity War gave us a good measure of who survived the dreaded snap. Just about every character who survived makes a brief appearance in the new Endgame trailer. Even Ant-Man, who got stuck in the Quantum Realm at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp makes an appearance, though we don't find out exactly how he managed to get out of it.
The biggest surprise was seeing the return of Hawkeye. Infinity War explained that he took a plea bargain deal for house arrest after the events of Captain America: Civil War so as to protect his family. Well in the new trailer, he's back and he has a new alter ego, Ronin. So what happened to his family?
Dead (or Missing)
- Peter Parker
- Hawkeye's family (presumed)
We are presented with many less dead, or missing, as the trailer puts it, characters in the new footage. We only see two characters that are confirmed to be missing and that is Peter Parker – , whom the audience saw perish in Infinity War – and Shuri.
At the end of Infinity War, we lose track of Shuri so it was assumed that she survived the snap, but the new trailer suggests that she didn't and is missing as a result.
The last set of characters that we presume to be dead are Hawkeye's family. As I said, he skipped out on the first battle with Thanos to protect his family, but given the snap appears to have claimed their lives, he came out of retirement, traded in his bow and arrow for a sword and donned the new alter ego of Ronin.
Avengers: Endgame will hit theaters on April 26, 2019.
