At this point, it seems like every character who has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will have a role to play in Avengers 4, and this latest confirmation is no different. According to Avengers 4 executive producer Michael Grillo, the film will see Tilda Swinton’s the Ancient One return.

Swinton’s character last appeared in 2016’s Doctor Strange, in which she bestowed her mystic knowledge on Dr. Stephen Strange. Swinton’s role was short-lived, however, as her character was mortally wounded by Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen).

Grillo didn’t reveal how the Ancient One would factor into Avengers 4, but fans are already speculating. Considering both the Ancient One and Doctor Strange are dead, the two could potentially meet in the afterlife, with the Ancient One bestowing one last nugget of knowledge to Doctor Strange before he returns to life.

If true, did Doctor Strange see himself meeting the Ancient One in his vision? Swinton’s character has plenty of knowledge of the Dark Dimension, too, something Doctor Strange could use to his advantage.

Or, in a different scenario, the Avengers could meet the Ancient One when they travel back in time. Avengers 4 is also said to feature many flashback scenes, so perhaps we’ll see the Ancient One in one of them. There are so many different scenarios that could play out.

Avengers 4 is set to hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
