We already knew the post-credits scene from Ant-Man and the Wasp would be important—stranding Scott Lang in the Quantum Realm was a calculated move on Marvel’s part. Turns out, him being stuck there isn’t just crucial for the plot of Avengers 4, it could tell us what happened to the many lives that were lost as a result of Thanos’ snap.
A new fan theory on Reddit—backed by a convincing video—argues that the post-credits scene in Ant-Man and the Wasp gave us a glimpse at the millions of perished souls, which were represented by glowing orange orbs.
According to the theory, right as Hank, Janet, and Hope are dusted by Thanos’ snap, an influx of orange orbs begin to surround Scott, possibly giving audiences a subtle look at where the souls of the dead were transported. It makes sense, seeing as the Soul Stone is also orange.
The Reddit theory goes on to argue that when Scott first enters the Quantum Realm, he’s surrounded by hues of blue, indicating it’s in a “calm” state. Not so once Thanos snaps his fingers. Scott even looks around as orange orbs start to surround him, as though he’s nervous about what’s going on.
If you need more convincing that the Quantum Realm is the key to defeating Thanos and bringing back the dead, check out this video, which lines up the events from Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Coupled with this new theory, it all comes together.
Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
