In October, Chris Evans hinted that Avengers 4 would be the last time we see him as Captain America after eight years in the role. But the superhero might not hang up his shield just yet.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Avengers 4 director Joe Russo explained that Evans isn’t “done yet” as Captain America, stopping short of revealing what he means by his comments.
“The audience will soon understand what I’m talking about,” Russo said.
With Chris Evans’ contract with Marvel reportedly ending with Avengers 4, many people are expecting Captain America to perish by the movie’s end. Or, at the very least, hang up his shield and retire. But it sounds like Marvel has other plans.
Does this mean Evans’ time as Captain America will continue in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? We’re not entirely sure. It could simply mean that he’ll be part of more reshoots as the directors continue to fine tune the upcoming film.
Or, it could be possible that Evans’ Captain America will have a role to play in the upcoming Marvel shows being made for Disney’s streaming service. According to Russo, we’ll soon find out.
Avengers 4 is set to hit theaters on May 3, 2019.
