Note: Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War
The death toll in Avengers: Infinity War was in the millions, thanks to Thanos wiping out half the universe. One of which occurred pretty early on when Thanos killed Loki, seemingly bringing an end to one of the MCU’s best characters. But did he actually die?
A new fan theory posits that Loki faked his death in Avengers: Infinity War and is primed to make a triumphant return in Avengers 4. Here’s the evidence provided by Radkarth via Reddit:
Loki is right handed. If you look, in movies since the Thor 1 to Avengers 1 to Ragnarok, he wields with his right hand. He holds weapons with his right and the sceptor [sp] in Avengers with his right.
There are two occasions he uses his left hand (that I’ve found). One, when he fakes his own death in Dark World. You can find him folding the dagger with his left hand during the entire scene. Two, when he stabs Thanos.
Radkarth’s theory concludes by saying the Loki we saw die in Avengers: Infinity War was just an illusion, similar to what we’ve seen him do before. Is it possible he escaped with the other Asgardians before Thanos invaded their ship?
There have been reported pictures of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki on the set of Avengers 4, so it does sound like he’ll return in some capacity. Whether this latest fan theory holds up remains to be seen. Loki is a tricky customer, and we certainly wouldn’t put it past him to pull off such a legendary con—and against Thanos no less.
But Radkarth’s theory has a hole: While Loki does briefly wield a blade with his left hand in Thor: The Dark World, he ultimately switches to his right hand when fighting against the elves. Either way, it’s an interesting observation that could hint at the character’s return in Avengers 4.
We’ll find out when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
