There’s a large contingent of fans out there who firmly believe Captain America will die in Avengers 4. How, exactly, remains a mystery. One theory, however, may have just cracked the case wide open, suggesting a moment in Avengers: Infinity War foreshadowed how it will happen.
The big caveat here is that it’s just a theory, and not directly from the horse’s mouth. But it makes sense, and if it turns out to be true, could wind up being the ultimate sacrifice.
The theory argues that Marvel deliberately showed Thanos injured at the end of Avengers: Infinity War in an effort to highlight how much harm the gauntlet can cause to its user, especially when equipped with all of the Infinity Stones.
Now, imagine Captain America wielding the gauntlet to undo the damage done by Thanos. Even with Cap’s enhancements, it’s unlikely he’d survive.
“My prediction is that sometime during the climax of the battle with Thanos THE AVENGERS will get the gauntlet off him, but there will be almost nobody left to use it,” the Reddit theory says. “Tony will attempt to do so, but Thanos will end up breaking his left arm, preventing him from doing it.”
At the crucial moment, Captain America will don the gauntlet and snap half the universe back into existence, but he’s not going to survive.
“The reason MARVEL showed the gauntlet hurting Thanos is so it makes more sense when it straight-up disintegrates Cap.”
Is this what Doctor Strange saw when he used the Time Stone to see the Avengers victorious over Thanos? If so, somebody better warn him.
Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
