Marvel Studios made a conscious choice to keep Ant-Man and the Wasp separate from Avengers: Infinity War, but that doesn’t mean the two movies aren’t somehow connected. In addition to Ant-Man and the Wasp’s post-credits scene, the film also features a pretty cool Easter egg that could tie directly to Avengers 4.
When Ant-Man and the Wasp kicks off, Scott Lang is under house arrest because of his participation in the events of Captain America: Civil War. So, to pass the time, he takes to learning new tricks by watching videos from the Online Close-Up Magic University.
Well, eagle-eyed viewers (or, in this case, listeners) noticed that in one of the videos Lang watches, the teacher utters some pretty choice words.
“Snap your fingers,” the magician says. “That gets them to look over there. Now, that is misdirection. Easy-peasy.”
The instructions from the teacher conjure to mind the snap from Thanos, which wiped out half the universe in Avengers: Infinity War. I highly doubt that was a throwaway line, so it’s very possible it could give us a hint of what to expect from Avengers 4.
As the magician says, the snap could have been used for misdirection, a trick pulled by Thanos to distract the Avengers from what’s really going on. As numerous theories have suggested, Thanos’ snap likely trapped half the universe in the Soul Stone, rather than killing them. Either that or they’re in a different universe.
When the Avengers figure out what Thanos really did, it could kick off a time-traveling adventure that spans multiple universes by way of the Quantum Realm, which was an important part of Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Sure, the insertion of the “snap your fingers” line in Ant-Man and the Wasp could be nothing more than a fun nod to Avengers: Infinity War. But, as we know, things aren’t always what they seem in the MCU, so the whole bit about misdirection could very well come into play by the time Avengers 4 hits theaters.
