Compared to the last few months, August looks set to be fairly tame as far as movies go. Sure, we’ll get films like Fantastic Four, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and a new Hitman. But, by and large, this might be a good month to catch up on some of the more recent releases—e.g. Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation, Inside Out, Ant-Man, and so on and so forth.

The biggest question mark this month will be Fantastic Four. The buzz so far has been pretty tepid—and that’s being nice. I’m going in open-minded, but it doesn’t seem as though people are overly optimistic. Hopefully we’ll all be surprised and come out saying, “I knew it would be good all along.” The film has a pretty great cast, and the trailers thus far have shown promise. But we’ll try and reserve judgement until it hits theaters this Friday.

There are some other films coming out this summer we might not normally cover: Straight Outta Compton has received some good early feedback, while American Ultra looks like it could be a sleeper hit this summer. Do I think Jesse Eisenberg is a convincing stoner secret agent? The trailers have me convinced.

Below are the movies to look out for this month.
