Acer Iconia

Still waiting for that Acer Iconia Tab to hit AT&T so that you can grab it with a data connection at a subsidized rate? Well, good news: the carrier has finally announced pricing and availability for the 10.1-inch Iconia Tab A501 Android tablet.

AT&T will begin shipping an HSPA+ enabled version of the Honeycomb slate from September 18. If you're willing to sign into a new two-year contract, you can bag the 16GB device for just $330. The tablet is identical to the Iconia Tab A500 — other than that additional HSPA+ capability, of course — which currently sells for $374 on Amazon.

So, what if you want the tablet with the integrated HSPA+ data connection but you don't want to get locked into a two-year AT&T agreement? Well, you can purchase a SIM-free device from AT&T for a slightly steep $480.

For that price tag, you get all the goodness of the Iconia Tab, including a 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, a 10.1-inch display, dual cameras and more:

Acer Iconia Tab A501 Specs

  • Android 3.0 Honeycomb
  • 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage
  • microSD expansion slot (up to 32GB)
  • 10.1-inch WXGA display (1280 x 800)
  • NVIDIA GeForce graphics
  • 5-megapixel rear-facing camera
  • 2-megapixel front-facing camera
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • HSPA+ data connection

That's a pretty impressive list of specifications, but it's worth remembering that HSPA+, while technically 4G, isn't as speedy as LTE — so you're not going to get those super fast speeds from AT&T's LTE network when it rolls out later this year.

$330 isn't a bad price for this Acer tablet, especially when you get a data connection thrown in, but I'm not sure I'd want to get tied into a two-year contract for one. What do you think? Will you be buying the Iconia Tab on AT&T?
